TL;DR
- President Petro's call for a Constituent Assembly is seen as a dangerous move, echoing Venezuela's transition to dictatorship.
- The justification for the Constituent Assembly, that the Congress is 'blocking' executive reforms, is compared to Hugo Chávez's rhetoric.
- Proposed changes include creating a new, autonomous Constitutional Tribunal with expanded powers, potentially replacing or undermining the current one.
- The plan aims to subordinate the Central Bank's mandate to government employment and growth targets, risking uncontrolled monetary emission and hyperinflation like in Venezuela.
- The economic model is proposed to shift from 'neoliberal' to one with state control, impacting property rights and economic pacts.
- The author argues that controlling the 'judge' (Constitutional Court) and 'politicizing the currency' are initial steps towards authoritarianism.
- The proposed changes are seen as a concerted effort to consolidate power, not merely reform the constitution.
- The article warns Colombia against following Venezuela's path, where citizen dependence on the state replaces freedom.
