TL;DR
- Champeta has been officially recognized as national heritage by the National Council of Cultural Heritage.
- A Special Safeguarding Plan (PES) has been approved to protect and promote Champeta.
- The recognition is credited to the sustained efforts of Fundación Roztro, the Champeta Heritage Safeguarding Committee, community organizations, artists, researchers, and local institutions.
- The PES focuses on four fundamental lines of action: cultural integration, material/symbolic/community universes, the Champeta Afro-Caribbean Music Festival, and memory/knowledge transmission.
- The recognition calls upon state institutions to ensure the protection and promotion of Champeta for future generations.
