TL;DR
- The 12th Marine Infantry Battalion will establish a permanent and indefinite military presence in Cartagena starting January 1, 2026.
- This formalization grants the battalion full jurisdiction within the city to enhance security strategies.
- Key objectives include combating contract killings, high-impact crimes, and ensuring citizen coexistence.
- The battalion will focus its operations on neighborhoods with historically high crime rates, such as Olaya Herrera and Nelson Mandela.
- The Marine Infantry will also support maritime security in coastal areas and waterways, as well as humanitarian aid operations.
- This initiative follows an announcement by the Minister of Defense to protect the city through an institutional offensive.
